New Mini Quilt Finished
My latest mini quilt has been finished. It is inspired by my friend Shimon's painting. This is actually the small mock-up that I did which will help me decide what to do when I make the larger one which is about 5 feet across. But I am absolutely in love with this mini!

My little Angry Bird
Today I sewed this little black bird costume together, I think it is looking pretty good! It's just made of sewing craft felt and so easy! I still have to add the padding between the lining and felt to create the rounded look and sew on the elastic at the bottom. But I think it's looking good! After this, a white bird!

Book bag made from a T-Shirt
I found this Obama t-shirt in a vintage store and decided that I wanted to try to make a book bag with it. I quilted it with a layer of muslin and warm and natural and a little bit of basting spray. I thought it turned out well and the t-shirt did not shift or move or stretch while I quilted it. I then used some Curious Nature and Diamond Chevrons to add some color to the sides.
Here is a photo of the back. I made this especially for my brother in law James.

Last-minute gifts!
I went to Arizona for a very quick trip to visit my family last weekend. I decided to make some last-minute gifts before I left. This is a pot holder for my friend Paul. It was originally a quilt block that he liked so I insulated it and quilted it. The small squares in the middle are actually the left over angles from making binding!
And this is an address bag tag that I made for my sister Starr. She loved the one I made for myself so I made it again for her using a different color scheme. She loved it! The artwork is original by my friend Shimon Kato.

Painting
I've been spending most of my free time this week painting this outline of my daughter for her room. It's really nice to try something new since I have never painted before. Also it has been a nice break from sewing and quilting which I usually do most of the time....

Slip cover!
I made this slip cover to cover this ugly chair for my daughter's room last week. Since then I have painted the legs black. I will post a complete photo when the paint dries. The fabric on the chair looks like a pretty pink but up close it's a muddled color that looks horrible all over. Besides this fabric matches her room I'm putting together, so it's a perfect match :)!

Calgary Stampede 2012
Here is a picture of the Calgary Stampede 100th Anniversary Quilt. In person it was huge and amazing! Lots of talented quilters made blocks for this quilt and you can see the time and love that was used to create it!
This is my quilt named Magical Moonlight that I entered into the Arts and Crafts Exhibition. It did not win anything but I was happy to see it displayed and enjoyed! It was based on a painting by my friend Shimon Kato, and maybe just a little too modern minimalist for this show. I paper pieced the entire moonlight area and then hand appliquéd it to the outer fabric. I also machine quilted this myself.
Me and my quilt!
This other piece I won a second place ribbon for. This is a collaboration with my friend Shimon Kato. That is a print of his painting in the center which I then used to translate into fabric!
